Hello, everybody. Today, I want to talk to you about something that we all ought to do more of in our everyday life.
Every day, we focus at our studies, at school and at work, worrying about that next test, deadline, or important project that is giving us stress. What we need at times like this is perspective: to recognize that our life is wonderful, that we are blessed, that we are truly lucky to be where we are living our life.
What we need to do more often is give thanks.
Giving Thanks: By giving thanks I do not mean just the holiday of Thanksgiving that we Americans celebrate. Although that day is all about giving thanks, not just turkey and football, we are not the only ones who celebrate such a day. The Germans celebrate Erntedankfest to celebrate their friends, family, and the fall harvest while the Japanese celebrate Kinrō Kansha no Hi to celebrate public workers and thanks for the hardwork of their community. Instead of celebrating only on these special days, however, we need to do more to give thanks EVERY DAY for those things we have and enjoy.
You might ask, what do I have? I see rich people on ,微博,that have more money and nicer things than I will ever have. I WANT THOSE THINGS. We live in a world where we are expected to want more and more and more. Instead of falling in this trap, we should be thankful for the things we have and not worry about those that we do not. Oprah Winfrey noted in her biography that we should “Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." We need to give thanks for what we have and stop comparing ourselves to others.
What does it mean to give thanks? To give thanks is not always just saying “thank you” or “谢谢”when someone does something nice for you. Giving thanks can take many other forms: For example, if someone does something nice for you, the best way to give thanks is to pay that gift forward by doing the same for someone else. “Paying it forward” is a powerful act. If we take every kind thing someone does to us and then take the opportunity to do it for someone else, our world would be a better place. Additionally, giving thanks can be just that, saying thank you to someone. Take a second out of your day and say thank you to your teacher who helps you study after class, your friend who helps you with a difficult problem, or your parents who are always there for you. This one moment of thanks can mean a lot.
In conclusion, each of us should take a moment to pause and reflect on all the things we do have and give thanks for those things. Don’t worry about what it is you don’t have; instead, focus on how we can give thanks and do other kindnesses for other people. By taking this small step, every day, we can make our world a better place. We all feel gratitude so get out there and share it for Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. Thank you!
