On March 18th, the international officer from Imperial College was invited to visit our school to deliver a wonderful speech to all students. Q: How is the coursework like in Imperial? Is it useful for graduates to gain experiences in job application?

帝国理工学院中是如何教学的? 毕业生在校的经历在**申请中是否有用?

A: First of all, we focus on individual learning, so a lot of time you'll be learning the material through yourself basically. We give you a list of reading and materials for you to go through, but also you have to do independent research. So we are building independent thinkers when you start your degree at Imperial. Second point, we focus on small size teaching as a measurement around. It's all about team-based learning environments. And you can be based in a small size class with another five or six people led by one of the professors as you be engaging with each other all the time. If you have any questions, you can pretty much have the answers immediately. The final one really is all about your re-motivation and what you able to expand your knowledge a little bit further run. For example, if you're doing the science or engineering, we also encourage students to build that disciplinary across all different subjects. So Imperial is really a place where people work with each other all the time. We have engineers working with clinicians, mathematicians working with business, but also some of the kinds of the work with the biologists. It’s all about working together come up with the project and solutions.

Q: What is the difference between Imperial and other universities? So what’re the reasons that students are going to choose Imperial?

A: Imperial is one of these nontraditional British universities in the UK. We don't teach a wide range of subjects at all. We only focus on science, engineering medicine. Such as UCL called multi- faculty university. They teach science but also they teach geography, teache history and also they teach all these psychology social sciences subject . At Imperial, we are the UK ‘s only university that special teaching science, engineering and medicines. We're focused specialist university that's the major difference between us and also the rest of the UK. In Imperial, in general. We also very diverse international as I mentioned in my presentation. We have a huge range of different nationalities represents on campus as well as it's all about to bring the best people from all of the world to come here to contribute perspective to the subjects. So if you want to talk about the size of university where I live is smaller compared to most university in the UK. We're doing such as we are good at, we don't teach any non-science subjects. So a lot people compare us with MIT in the USA. They usually call us a MIT in Europe, because we're very scientifically focused.

It's just not something we have, as a community, Imperial have the strongest the industry links in the UK as well. So majority of students can secure the job within three months’ graduation from the college as well. So the graduation rate is much higher compared to the rest of UK universities.

Q: What is the community like in Imperial? Is the community suitable for Chinese students to study in there? We are worried about adapting the environment？

A: At Imperial we have the Student Union. For example, three hundred seventy-eight different classes of society at Imperial. So there are more than from the three hundred seventy-eight ways of discovering or interest outside your academic, so community why is we have people from all of the places? Obviously, we understand some nationalities. For example, Chinese, Korean people, you guys have a stronger sense of community like to hang out together. Actually, we have the Chinese scholarship association society basically that's for all the Chinese students to come out together but also have students who want to join other societies as well. For example, some of the really quickly ones, we have Hot Chocolate Society, Harry Potter Society, also have Hot Pot Society as well from Sichuan. So all these for things we get have some fun times after your studies.

Q: If our English skills are not good as the native speakers, and we are more prone to exam techniques, is it easy to understand the lesson there? Or self-study would be a main way to graduate?

A: Obviously before you enter the university will have to test your English language proficiency is you have to meet up the college language requirements regardless. So if you do struggle a little bit after you have enrolled, we actually offer free initial lessons at Imperial. That's mainly for you to communicate on a daily basis rather than on a degree level. So whether you're able to communicate your ideas by English comfortably in academic way that stunt your own work. We mainly teach you for the degrees studies. If you want to learn languages enhance your language skills, you probably have to pay extra tuition for other lessons. But again, we do offer free English Language course at Imperial, but it's only for students who want to use English on a daily basis rather than using for academic purpose.
