2018年10月23日下午,美国诺科学校上海分校选修环境科学和人文地理的同学们,前往崇明区长兴岛的前小桔创意农场,与土壤进行了一次深度“对话”。以下是部分同学的课后感言。
土壤和人类的关系
Soil is one of the nature resources of earth and it produces a lot of lives. On the field trip, firstly, we had a course of lecture. The farmer told us about different kind of soil. Red soil was containing iron and it is fit to cultivate the crops. Yellow soil had two types. One type was baked, and it had stickiness. The other was made by wind and sand. White soil was full of salt, people could not plant any crops on this soil.
We also learned that food had different quality criterions—organic food, eco-food and pollution-free food. Then we went to see the orange trees, tried to turn up soil. We learned knowledges about the grafting, rice needed usually change water, the roots of rice needed oxygen and so on.

Every earth has its own environment also they have life, when we always hurt it, it will have the revenge to the people such as to become white land, have heavy metal in the land, become harden, the worst is to become desert.
It is a very good trip because I learn a lot of things about the dirt. All the dirt is alive, maybe we can use different ways to help them not become desert.

We learn plenty of knowledge about the relationship between vegetable and soil through the outside class last Tuesday. Personally, it is very meaningful to have such class since students can not only learn some specific concepts, but they also can have fun.
The most essential thing I learn from this class is that if there is not commercial value of one positive thing, some people may stop to do such thing. Therefore, government should interfere in such case and make effort to propose the development of these positive things, such as “green” vegetable research and protection of environment.

In this outdoor interactive class, I learned several different land types and the reasons for the formation of saline-alkali land, such as excessive use of land and fertilizer. I also knew about several different irrigation methods, for example, exchanging planting crops, exchanging planting land, to make sure that the nutrition of the land was not lost and that there was enough time for cultivation.
Every different crop needs different soil, so they have carried out a small range of soil improvement for different flowers or crops, and succeeded in bringing them together harmoniously.
