六一节，这个充满着童真和欢笑的节日是否让你回忆满满?然而，中国有好多困境儿童都没有条件享受他们的儿童节。不幸的身世剥夺了他们健康快乐成长的权利。在一些偏远乡村，很多孩子因为贫困或是家人患病等原因，早早成为了家里的“小大人”，弱小的肩膀背负着与他们年龄不相称的责任，稚嫩的脸庞流露着与他们年龄不相称的惆怅。在中国，每10名儿童中就有4名受到父母外出务工的影响。6103万留守儿童，占中国儿童总数的22%，而这仅仅是正在无声求助的孩子们中的一小部分(“中国儿童发展指标图集”)。

Do you ever feel reminiscent on the International Children’s Day of June 1st, the day embodying the innocence and playfulness of childhood? However, many children in China are not entitled to enjoy the holiday they deserve—their unfortunate birth usually strip them of any possibility of leading a healthy, happy early life. In some parts of remote rural areas, children who are born into families of destitution or infirmities are forced to mature early, carrying duties and expressions that are unfit for their age. In China, 4 out of every 10 kids are left alone by their parents who work all year in another place far from home. There are about 61,030,000 left-behind children, which comprises nearly 22% of the total children population, but they are just a tiny portion of those who are silently asking for help.

因此，我们希望，在这个儿童节，我们上海诺科学校大家庭可以为这些孩子们做点什么。作为学生，我们没有经济来源，但是我们有知识与学识。无论现在或将来，这些都会是我们能帮助社会进步的资源。所以我们举办了这场校级学科知识竞赛，期望能以个人参赛费的形式募集610人民币整的筹款，最终以诺科学校的名义捐赠给联合国儿童基金会驻中国办事处(UNICEF)，向此组织的“助福儿童-儿童福利项目”单次捐款。

超过捐款金额(人民币610元)的部分将作为奖金，发给得分最高的三位参赛者-- 报名参赛的选手人数越多，最终奖金会越高哦。同时，分数排名前三分之一的参赛者们还可以获得奖项以此表彰他们在学科知识竞赛中的优异表现。

Thus, we want to organize the North Cross School Shanghai to do something together for these kids for this year’s International Children’s Day. We know, as students, not many of us have a stable income, but our knowledge learned in school indeed will be the input that enables us to make positive impacts on the society—and it may already be. We planned for this school-level academic competition, wishing to raise 610 RMB by the end from the charges of individual participation fee and to donate all the raised money as a one-time fund to UNICEF China on behalf of the school to support its “Children Welfare” program (please refer to -action/donate-once). If the total fund raised is more than the intended 610 RMB, then the exceeded amount will be put into the scholarship pool, which will be awarded to the three highest-scoring participants (meaning that the more participants we have, the larger the awards we will give). Meanwhile, participants with rankings of the top 1/3 will be awarded with a title for their excellent performance.

具体规则在各位报名之后会有更详细的解释说明。参赛者以1-2人组队;题目涵盖生物，化学，物理，数学，经济，历史，艺术，文学八大学科，每科下面都会设置不同难度等级的题目对应不同数值的分数。参赛者可以选择自己擅长的或者有信心的题目进行作答，答对即可加分。最后总分越高即排名越高。比赛的时间目前初步定在六月十三/十四号(期中考结束之后的周末)中的大约一小时时间，具体的时间段我们可以根据大家的需求最后确定，届时参赛者将会在Zoom上登入，在我们两位组织人的主持下完成比赛。

The “For Them, For Us” Fund-Raising Academic Competition will adopt a form similar to the game Jeopardy (see the picture below), with two people as a group. Participants will receive more explicit explanation of the rules after registration. To put it in a nutshell, the knowledge tested will be from these eight categories—biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, economics, history, arts, literature—and under each category we will prepare different levels of questions corresponding to different numbers of points. Participants will pick and choose whatever the topics they like and questions they have confidence in getting them correct. Designated points are earned for every correct answer, and higher total points would result in higher rankings. The competition will take place on Zoom during the weekend of June 13th/14th (which will be the weekend after the mid-term exam) and only last about an hour. The final exact time will be determined based on the best arrangements accommodating for participant’s schedule.

The registration opens from today (June 1st) to the last day of the mid-term exams (June 12th). We encourage every student who would like to make a positive impact to the society to sign up, and we also welcome our beloved teachers and parents who wish to give these poor kids a hand to join us.
