关注自身发展，更敢于接受外部挑战

I’m here to talk to you today about why we should all strive to be more internationally minded and more aware of the world around us. Of course, dedicating time to your studies and focusing on yourself is a worthy pursuit, but there is a whole world of knowledge and experience waiting for you, out there, and it is equally important that you are prepared to meet the challenges it will soon present.

打好语言基础，汲取多元文化养分，是成为“世界公民”的必修课

When I was your age, I never thought I would one day be living and working in a foreign country, being challenged daily by language and cultural differences, if I could go back and do it all again, I would have certainly made a stronger effort to prepare myself to be more internationally minded, and understand what it means to be a global citizen.

认识世界之前，首先要认识自己

The first thing you should begin to develop is an increased self-awareness, in other words, know thyself. Before you look out to the world around you, look within. Start to think deeply about who you are, what you want, where you want to be five, or ten years from now.

不同的成长环境和教育背景，造就了每个具有特色的个体。在与他人的交往过程中，**换位思考，保持一颗“同理心”

Once you begin to know yourself better, it’s time to get to know others. Build friendships with your peers from different backgrounds. The person standing next to you may have some knowledge or experience they can share with you that can completely change how you view the world, and yourself. This will also develop your ability to see the world from another’s perspective and develop your sense of empathy. It is essential as you venture out into the world and interact and collaborate with people of different cultures, different racial and ethnic backgrounds, and different life experiences.

每一位开拓者，必须拥有迎难而上的信念

When my country, the united states of America, sought to explore the new frontier that lay above us, president John F. Kennedy spoke before a crowd much like all of you, a group of people eager to expand their horizons, he said, “We choose to go to the Moon! We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.”

希望你们无所畏惧，创新进取，时刻准备在万象更新的未来世界中，成为更好的自己。

Now you are on the precipice of a new frontier, a personal, spiritual, educational pursuit that will take you far beyond the limits of your own country and culture. What you’re doing is certainly not easy, in fact, it is very, very hard. But they say that just showing up is half the battle, and from what I can see, you are here, you have shown up, and you are now that much more prepared to meet personal, local, and global challenges that lie ahead.
