(最初)拼字大赛的招募公告一发布，我就被要求成为其中的一名参赛选手，负责比赛中最难的部分：语言起源。我需要记住15种语言中的大量单词，*括Old English、Eponyms、Slavic和许多其他类型的语言。作为一名10年级的学生，这对我来说是一个巨大的挑战，在过去的几年里，高年级的学生总是要面对这种困难。

As soon as the recruitment announcement for the Spelling Bee Contest was posted, I was asked to be a contestant and to take charge of the hardest part of the competition, Language Origin. I need to remember a great amount of words from 15 languages, including Old English, Eponyms, Slavic and many other types of languages. This was a huge challenge for me as a 10th grade, and seniors were always dealing with this hardship for the past few years.

不得不承认，当时的我，的确不知道该怎么办才好。作为高中队中最年轻的队员，我负责最困难的部分。怎样才能在这么短的时间内**和记住这么多语言呢?我花了几个月的时间来熟悉这些材料，并找出不同语言的拼写模式。例如，双辅音在意大利语中经常出现，像“tz”这样的单字在德语中出现很多;在法语中，单词通常以字母“e”结尾。然而，尽管我已经做好了准备，但我还是会在我熟悉的单词上犯错误。“Alquerque--Alquerque”老师重复了两遍，我还是不能正确地拼写出这个棘手的阿拉伯语单词，(尽管此前)我已经背诵并练习了好几遍。教练的每一个轻微的皱眉都让我觉得很沮丧，不自信。它成了我胃里的一个结，失望也一直困扰着我。尽管如此，我明白努力和付出是成功的关键，所以我做了一个电子表格，里面有语言起源和定义中的所有单词，我让我的搭档每天对我进行测试，直到我把它们做到**。

I have to admit I had no clue what to do. As the youngest member of high school team, I was responsible for the most difficult part. How could I learn and remember so many languages in such short span of time? It took me months to familiarize myself with the material and to figure out the spelling patterns in different languages. For instance, double consonant appears a lot in Italian, monogram like "tz" appears a lot in German, and in French, words often end with a letter "e". However, even though I was prepared, I still made mistakes with words I knew very well. "Alquerque -- Alquerque" the teacher repeated it twice, but I still could not spell this tricky arabic word right which I had definitely memorized and practiced to spell it for tons of times. Every slight frown of my coach made me extremely frustrated and inconfident. It became a knot in the pit of my stomach. Disappointment haunted me for the rest of the day. Nonetheless, I knew hard work and effort are the keys to success, so I made a spreadsheet with all of the words within language origins and definitions and asked my partner to quiz me on them everyday until I had them perfect.

(比赛前)我觉得不舒服。我很紧张，我的胃都在打转。房间里摆着一排排整齐的桌子，每一张都被我队的另一位选手占据，我们都要参加拼字大赛了。老师已指示我们排队。尽管我对规则了如指掌，但我还是不由得感到紧张。

I felt sick. I was nervous and my stomach's turning. The room was lined with neat rows of desks, each one occupied by another contestant in my team. We're all about to take the demo Spelling Bee competition. The teacher has instructed us the line-up. Although I've understood the rules inside and out, I still felt nervous.

(比赛时)我全神贯注于每一个单词，确保每个单词拼写正确。成功就在失败之后!我仍然记得我在演示赛中的最后一个词，“Graffitti”，这个词在成为英语之前，是从希腊语到拉丁语再到意大利语的。“满分，干得好，Ella。”我的教练情绪高涨地说。那一刻，幸福像彗星一样划过我……

I was so wrapped up in each word, in making sure that I was spelling each word right. Success comes right after the fall! I still remembered my last word in demo round, Graffitti, a word that went from Greek to Latin to Italian before becoming English. "10 out of 10, well done, Ella" said my coach with a lifted mood. At that moment, happiness streaked through me like a comet…

由于新冠疫情Covid19，我们的拼字大赛延后了。然而，我还是很开心能拥有这样一个令人难以忘怀的经历。它不仅让我对不同的语言有了广泛的了解，而且还**了我：如果你专注于去做某件事，并且肯为之付诸努力，你一定会成功的。

Due to pandemic disease -- Covid 19, our Spelling Bee contest was postoned. Yet, I was glad to endure such a haunting experience. It not only brings me a broad knowleges of different languages, but also teaches me that if you put your head to something, and work hard for it, you will always succeed.
