Writing demands so much more than typing words onto pages and screens. Writers create books, manuals, magazines—as they always have. But, they also design websites, social media campaigns, instructional videos, museum displays, graphic novels and more. If you see something that brings together text, images, video and sound, then a writer might be behind it. Professional and technical writers solve complex problems in creative and innovative ways. Writers learn to make designs more effective and inclusive by studying people as they use information. At SVSU, you’ll learn to harness communication technologies and research strategies to drive your expertise in information design. You will develop knowledge essential to just about every industry and working environment you might imagine. Writing today is high tech, multifaceted and challenging. But there is a payoff. PTW grads enjoy excellent career opportunities in and beyond Michigan.

The Professional and Technical Writing program at SVSU balances practice and theory in the study of information design. Students learn ethical, inclusive strategies for writing, editing, design, usability research, problem analysis and project management. They implement professional-grade communication technology into a creative process that integrates language, sound, images, video and interactivity. SVSU’s PTW program offers students community connections and engaging projects as they pursue their degree.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must currently be a junior or senior in high school (with or without college credits), or have graduated high school and have taken no college courses. We strongly recommend high school students take a rigorous college preparatory curriculum prior to enrolling at SVSU. The primary core includes: 4 years of English; 3 years of mathematics (through second year algebra); 3 years of natural sciences (at least two years of biology, chemistry, or physics); 3 years of social sciences; 2 years of the same foreign language. Minimum Language Requirements: Minimum GPA: 2.0; TOEFL- IBT: 61; IELTS: 5.5; PTE: 45.
