The Bachelor of Science in Health Science degree is designed for students interested in pursuing a health-related career or continuing on to graduate school to obtain an advanced degree in the health care field. The BS in Health Science degree major is flexible, allowing students to pursue graduate programs for multiple careers in the health care industry. Students electing to take the pre-professional track will be prepared to pursue graduate educational programs in areas such as, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, pre-Med, or pre-Dental and other health professions. Concentrations in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, and Global Health prepare students who do not wish to pursue graduate study for entry level health care related positions within each industry. With an innovative curriculum and flexible scheduling, the BSHS major is suited to both full-time and part-time students.

Depending on your career goals the BSHS will prepare you with the necessary basic sciences that are the most common prerequisites for any graduate school program. The BSHS advisor is knowledgeable in the each of the health care fields and will assist you in planning your course selections.

Will I have research opportunities?

The Health Research Capstone course will provide an overview of health research principles and the role of research in the delivery of health care, showing connections to the other BS HS major core courses on leadership and management, diversity, improving quality and safety, and legal/ethical principles and issues. Specifically, the Capstone process will emphasize finding the best available current research and applying evidence-based practices to selected scenarios. The capstone experience will involve selection of an approved topic from the major core courses and design of a project to enhance knowledge and skills in that area.

What are my career options with a Health Science degree?

The Healthcare Administration concentration prepares students to assume entry level roles in hospitals or clinic administration, healthcare informatics, healthcare finance, or business administration. The Public Health concentration prepares students for graduate degree programs in Public Health or entry level positions in epidemiology, health education, environmental health, or public health positions in hospitals, or city, state, or federal government. The Global Health Concentration prepares students for graduate degree programs in Global Health or related fields, or entry level work in disaster relief organizations, international agencies, refugee and immigrant organizations, multi-lateral agencies or non-governmental organizations.

English Language Requirements: TOEFL score of 550 on the paper-based test or 80 on the TOEFL iBT; IELTS – 6.5 PTE – 62; iTEP – 5; ELS English for Academic Purposes - Level 112; Education First (EF) - C1; Cambridge Advanced English – 58; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) – 5.5; Cambridge Certificate in Proficiency in English (CPE) – 5.5.
