ILMUNC ChinaDiary 1
“ On March 9th, 14 students from North Cross Xinhe went to the ILMUNC China 2017 Conference. This was the third time for Sophia and Jason taking the team to the Model UN Conference.
This time Jason represented Sweden in the United Nation Security Council and Sophia represented Egypt in Special Political and Decolonization Committee. This conference was a challenge for all the delegates from our school. Most of them were in a committee with 50 delegates. Jason was in a crisis committee in which a lot of crisis would happen. It was totally new to him. Jim represented Spain in DISEC and Stephen represented Netherland in DISEC as well. Betty represented Spain in SPECPOL. Dawn represented Egypt in WHO and Laurie was the delegate of Spain in WHO. Summer represented the Ministry of Finance of the Brazilian Cabinet. She was also in a crisis committee.
Hope every delegate have a good debate ! ”
Session Continues∥Diary 2
This was the second day of this conference. There were more and more debates inevery committee. In Brazilian Cabinet and UNSC, the chair was training the delegates on writing the crisis during the committees. Both of the chairs used a lot of examples to illustrate how a crisis should be written. The crisis in UNSC was more interesting and more urgent than the crisis in the Brazilian Cabinet. In Brazilian Cabinet, they could assassinate each other, but in UNSC we could notdo such things. We could send spies to different countries; we could bomb other countries’ missile launch pad and so on. In other committees, Stephen was actively making speeches, but Jim seemed to like more to present more ideas than give more speeches. Sophia and Betty worked very hard to pass their resolution, while Dawn and Laurie were on the opposite side. What made Laurie feel very angry was that Dawn was in the same bloc with Laurie but several sessions later Dawn joined another group and used Laurie’s idea to draft another resolution.
Alot more debates went on during that day.
On March 11th, the crisis in UNSC and Brazilian Cabinet became more and more serious. In UNSC, a terrorism group called Xyber attacked the Internet system of P5’s nuclear system and they would launch the nuclear missiles in two hours. We had to pass some directives to solve this crisis. During the crisis, the riots became more and more violent. With more and more people dead, people lost their confidence on the government. We had to turn to religious leader sand famous stars to comfort people and make them go into the nuclear bunkers. However, there were still around 3 hundred thousand civilians died world-wide. We made India the sixth permanent countries in order to make them disconnect their nuclear system, as well as Pakistan’s, from the Internet. Also, we gave DPRK a nuclear war head and changed the rules of the modern basketball rules to that ofKim JeongEun’s. The funniest thing was that we had to ask the leader of everymember states of UNSC to have Kim JeongEun’s hair style. After we all agreed with those things, we couldn’t help laughing. In other committees, all of our students passed their draft resolutions. All of them did a great job during the conference.
At night, we had a delegate gala, but it was not as crazy as the gala at WEMUNEXPO. There were only few delegates dancing in the dancing hall, while in WEMUNEXPO, there were thousands of the delegates.
It was the greatest time in the ILMUNC China.
Awarding Ceremony∥Diary 3
The last session would be the fun session. In UNSC, we wrote a note that contain something like who was the funniest delegate, who was the most flower receiver, who was the most handsome delegate and so on. We were talking about the crisis we made during the entire conference. We were just having fun during the last session. For some other committees, they could do some more crazy things because they had more delegates but we just had 14 delegates so we cannot do something crazier.
Later the closing ceremony was the most exciting part. Everyone in our team had the ability to fight for an award. Even though that they were all new to the conference, they tried their best. They spoke a lot, made their own bloc and introduced their Working Paper and Draft Resolutions. I was pretty happy to see all of them participated a lot and willing to go to the next conference. We worked so hard for not only writing but also speaking. Some of them made a lot of great speeches during the moderated caucus and had a lot of great ideas. Some of us controlled the committee pretty well. In the end, Sophia got Honorable mentionin SPECPOL as the delegate of Egypt and Jason got the Best Position Paper in UNSC as the delegate of Sweden. Both of Sophia and Jason made a lot of great speeches, but they lacked the control of the whole committee. If they could improve this, they would do a better job.
Special thanks to FEIas a Faculty Advisor for supervising us and offering help at any time. Special thanks to MICHAEL who worked so hard as a volunteer. Special thanks to all the observers.
Finally, congratulations to Sophia and Jason again on their good job in the conference.
