2017上海新和中学国际部国际高中生模联专栏NCXH MUN Team's Words
Aug.3th
This is the first time that Xia Shan lead the NCXMUN Team to Beijing to attend the WEMUN EXPO 2017. This is the 10th anniversary for the WEMUN EXPO.They hold a great opening ceremony starting by a video which include everything in the ten years for WEMUN Conference. During the opening ceremony, Vincent Guo who is the executive manager of Weland International and Shuye Cao who is the CEO of Weland International made wonderful speeches about what Weland and WEMUN Conference had experienced from the first year that they had been formed. “This was the greatest opening ceremony I had ever seen in my life”, said by XiaShan.
This year Weland hold a new activity only for the 10th anniversary which is called Weachievement. This is an activity that all the delegates will collect points by general, social and academic activities. The delegates who get the highest score will be able to attend WeOverseas 2018 for free.
After the opening ceremony, the first session was started from 7p.m. at night. It was the first time for most of them to attend a real conference with the students from all over the world. Some of them felt extremely nervous in the first session. Sophia told them that they needed to try to calm down and try to work with other delegates in the committee. In the first session, all the new 11th graders did a great job. They actively caucus on the Iranian nuclear program, Olympic Game Hosting City Selection, Empowering Women Privately and Politically and soon. All of delegates work as the real diplomacy in the real UN Conference to solve all kinds of crisis in the world. They caucus with other delegates. They cooperate and collaborate with other delegates during the unmoderated caucus. They did a great job in the first session.

It is the second day of WEMUN EXPO 2017. There was more intense debate on each committee today. Every delegate from our school is ready to caucus with other delegates in their committee.
In the morning, there was a traditional activity of WEMUN EXPO—Panel Discussion. This year Weland offered two kinds of activities which were Green Light Dance learning and MUN Club Foundation Assistance. Only Stephen went to the Green Light Dance learning in the morning. The rest of delegates and assistant directors from our school were busy at preparing the next session. Delegates were doing more researches and writing their speeches. The assistant directors were reading the position papers from their delegates in their committees. Green Light Dance was the tradition of Weland in the gala night. Grant and Michael met a very competitive delegate from Chicago. She was so competitive that Michael felt nervous during the conference. Grant and Michael did a lot of useful researches in the morning which will help them for their 2nd and 3rd session in the afternoon. Sophia, as the assistant director for SSUNS CSW, read about 30 position papers in the morning.
After lunch, all the delegates went to their committee to prepare the working paper with their blocs. Grant was the sponsor of the working paper of their bloc. They work very hard on their working paper. During the session, working paper from Grant’s bloc was questioned by the delegate of Russian Federation. She believed that Grant’s working paper seriously affected the Iran’s sovereignty and their rights as a country. She stated that if those things would in Grant’s resolution, she would veto that resolution definitely. Grant as the delegate of Sweden, still had time to adjust his bloc’s working paper. During the following debate in the session two and session three, Grant and his bloc members try to negotiate with other delegates in order to reach a consensus on the Iranian Nuclear Program. In the UNAIDS, Betty and Jim led their bloc to solve the AIDS crisis in Africa. Betty’s performance was brilliant in their committee. The rest of delegates from our school all do well in their committees. They made a lot of grade speeches. After the session 3, all of the delegates went to their bloc and wrote their draft resolutions. Tonight was called the draft resolution night.
All of the delegates tried their best today.

This is the third day of WEMUN EXPO 2017. There is an exciting events—WeGala tonight.
In the morning, there were still two sessions. In the first session, there was more and more debate in the committee. In the UNSC, the debate was more intense than we were thought. There were lots of international students in UNSC. This created a lot of difficulties for Grant and Michael. It was their first time attended an international Model UN Conference. Grant’s performance was better than Michael’s performance. Grant’s knew how to ease the pressure and what he should do when he felt nervous. Grant did a lot during the unmoderated caucus. All of his bloc members followed him to write the draft resolution. It seemed that Grant worked harder in his bloc than other delegates. For Jim and Betty, they were writing their draft resolution in the committee. They worked extremely hard because they were in a big committee. They have to negotiate with other delegates in order to get enough votes to pass their draft resolution. For Stephen, he represented Germany in DISEC which was about 50 delegates. He formed a bloc in their committee and composed a perfect draft resolution. However, Stephen’s chair did not discuss Stephen’s resolution by using the excuse of not having enough time. After that, I told him to change it into unfriendly amendment which needs two-thirds majority to pass. But Stephen’s chair still not willing to discuss Stephen’s Amendment. For other delegates from our school, they all did a great job in their committee.
In the night, we went to the most famous activity in the whole EXPO—WeGala. There would be a traditional show in WeGala—Green Dance. All the assistant directors and Chairs would dace on the stage. This year all the We10 Team, Cao Shuye, Directors and Assistant Directors were on the stage. Green dance brought all the people in the hall to the craziest time. After the Green Light Dance, the party started. DJ played a lot of great music which would make every dance. Delegates dance with chairs. Nobody cared who you are. Everyone went crazy. Even Sophia, a quiet girl, went crazy during the gala. Sophia said that it might not be the real Sophia. It was the fake one. After the dancing party, huge amounts of people went to eat barbecue at night. No one went to bed early tonight. What a crazy night!
Aug.6th
This was the last day of WEMUN EXPO 2017. It was time to witness the miracle. Every delegate from our school had the ability to fight for an award.
In the morning, there was a fun session for superlatives and crazy things. Usually, in this session, delegates could do whatever they want. In Grant and Michael’s committee, chair talked a lot about University of Chicago and some frequent use slangs by native speakers. Also, they discussed a little about the East Congo problems and modern international relationships. One of the delegates in UNSC motioned chair to dance. But chair said that I did not want you guys to have some eye problem after watching my dance. So I would rule the motion not in order. In Jim and Betty’s committee, their chair was motioned to sing a rap. Their chair did a great job on that. In SSUNS CSW, some delegates motioned AD to dance with the volunteer which was quite a fun thing to see. There were some other interesting things happened in other committees. After all the crazy things, chairs and Ads will present the Best Position Paper and Honorable Mention during the session period. Tao Shaokang (Grant) got the Honorable Mention from MUNUC UNSC as a delegate of Sweden. Congratulation to Grant!!! There were still some big awards for us in the closing ceremony.
After the last session, all the delegates went to attend the closing ceremony/ awarding ceremony. It was the time which would have tears and laughs. You would feel extremely nervous when Secretary General was announcing the award for your committee. This was what Sophia and Jason said. They told us that, from what they had experienced, especially last year’s WEMUN EXPO and this year’s ILMUNC China, they felt very nervous in the closing ceremony even more nervous than debate in the committee. When you saw your name on the power point, you would relax and celebrate for what you got, especially for Jason from WEMUN EXPO 2016. His celebration made him feel relax for a long time. When the Secretary General announced the awards for UNAIDS, Betty felt nervous and she hoped she could get an awards this year. Finally, her dream came true. Zhu Yuexi (Betty) was the Outstanding Delegate from UNAIDS from Cornell as a delegate of Italy. This was a huge success and recognize for what she had done for this conference. She felt extremely excited after receiving the award. She said “she would get a BD for next time”. Congratulations to Betty!!! And we hope her dream will come true!
After the closing ceremony, delegates hugged with their friends. Some of them agreed with each other that they would come back together next year at the same committee. This was the moment that nobody wanted to experience but farewell was a preparing for a better reuniting. After the delegates see-off, we went to the airport and on the way to home.
Congratulations to Betty and Grant again for their great job during the conference!!!
