陈老师是莱克顿的信息技术老师兼竞赛主管,一直是一个闪闪发光的存在。走在校园里,学生们都十分亲近她。她身材小巧,总是带着亲切和蔼的笑。当我们向她提出专访时,她很是害羞,甚至想拒绝。在专访过程中,她却常常语出惊人,向我们展现了她作为一个教师的专业水准,也透露出了莱克顿学术团队的匠心独具。以下是专访记录。
L:作为莱克顿的一名老师,您怎么看待教学**?
C:我的**一直是在教学领域的,其实我最喜欢的**就是做老师,我很享受做老师这个过程。我很喜欢跟学生在一起,喜欢上课,喜欢和他们一块学习。尤其是我来到莱克顿以后,这里的孩子太可爱了,我也很欣赏学校对每个孩子负责的态度。
教学是一个很复杂的**,我们要做的不仅仅是给学生讲课那么简单。我的教学有三个过程:一、我首先是要**学生知识;二、是要让学生能运用知识通过考试;三、我会鼓励他们参加竞赛,让他们的长处有的放矢。学知识的目的为己所用,通过考试是将知识实际运用,参加竞赛则是将其作为一个强项,为未来铺路。在教学上,其实是达到了不同的层次。
在整个上海的国际学校,我可以说是老师里面编程比较好的,编程里面教的比较好的!
L: As a teacher of Lucton, how do think teaching?
C: I have always been engaged in teaching, and I enjoy my work. I enjoy staying with my students, giving classes and studying with my students. When I work in Lucton, I find the students so cute. I appreciate the school’s attitude to each student.
Teaching is a complicated task. As a teacher, my work is beyond giving class itself. My teaching contains three processes. At first, I teach my students to learn; Then, I enable students to pass their examinations with the knowledge they have learned; At last, I encourage my students to attend competitions to exert their strengths. Learning knowledge is for the use of purpose. Passing examinations is to put knowledge into practice. Attending competitions is to make use of strengths and pave for the future. Teaching has come in different levels.
In all international schools in Shanghai, I believe I am the best in programming teaching!
L:那么能分享一下,您在教学**上的经验和心得吗?
C:莱克顿在计算机上的教学分为两部分,一个是学术课,一个是拓展课。我先讲学术部分。
学术课上是我们最基础、最主要的内容,学好一门课的最终目的是运用它。学生学了编程,那么他就要有写编程的能力。在IGCSE阶段,我们给学生选用了牛津考试局的课程,因为它最后的考试含有上机考试,但剑桥考试局的计算机考试没有上机部分的。学校肯定希望我们这个课程是更具有实用性的。如果学生将来到大学还要学习编程,那么这种上机的经验会比理论更有帮助。
有的家长会担心,学术课面向的是考试,它会比较狭隘,有局限性,虽然我们不能完全打破局限,但是我们的计算机课还是有很多有趣的部分。举一个简单的例子。在python编程中,你可以用程序画一朵花、一支玫瑰、甚至是小猪佩奇。这些并不是考试或课本上的要求,但是它能很好的激发学生的兴趣。因此,我把这里做成了一个课题,让每个学生都选择一个图案用编程画出来,他们要思考画什么图,如何编写,如何呈现,每个学生在兴趣中都提高了相应的能力,因为在画的过程中还是会用到编程的各种技能,例如:选结构和基本语法。这些都是我在考试要求之外给于他们的补充,我不仅仅是希望把知识灌输给学生,更希望他们很乐意去学这些,并且能够真正学到技能,为他们所用的。
至于拓展课,我们在拓展课上选择的范围就大了很多,**学期的拓展课上,学生们自己做了许多APP,有的是画图工具,有的是小游戏,还有知识问答的。上学期学习的内容更高级一些,树莓派,由于时间上的关系,我们没有完成这个内容,这学期会接着进行,希望能有一些作品呈现出来。接下来,我想要带学生们做更实用的东西,比如说给我们学校做语音播放设备,做花草的定时灌溉设备——这里涉及的是感应器的知识。
拓展课就是要给学生们尽情发展兴趣的空间和机会,让他们对这门课有兴趣,才会去学习,才会真正学到东西。但是,我们希望学生能发展兴趣爱好,并将兴趣为他们所用。在学生到了10年级或11年级时,我们更希望把他的兴趣转变为特长,鼓励他们参加竞赛取得成绩。真的喜欢就钻进来研究嘛,学校会给学生非常多的支持,给他们时间,给他们竞赛辅导,帮助他们参加竞赛证明自己的能力。
L: Could you please share your experiences and feelings in teaching?
C: The computer teaching of Lucton is divided into two parts, namely, academic class and co-curriculum activities(CCA). Let me talk about academic class at first.
The academic class is to teach the most fundamental and basic contents. The ultimate purpose of learning a course is to put it into practice. After learning programming, students should prepare themselves with the ability of writing programming. In IGCSE, we select the courses set by Oxford AQA, as it contains the operational examination, while that by Cambridge AQA does not. I am sure that our school expects that this course can meet practical purposes. If a student majors in programming in his college, the experience of practical operation will be more helpful than theory. Unfortunately, we have to resort to the standard for A Level by Cambridge, as Oxford has not set the computer examination at A Level for the time being.
Some parents may worry that academic courses are centered at the examination, which are probably limited. Although we cannot totally break the limit, the computer course contains some interesting parts. Let us have a simple example. In the programming of python, you can draw a flower, a rose or even Peppa Pia with your program. These are not required in the examination or textbook, but can arouse students’ interest. Therefore, I have made a subject that students are required to select a graphic pattern for drawing with the program. They have to think what to draw, how to program, and how to demonstrate. All students have improved themselves in interest, as all skills related to programming are required during drawing, such as selecting structure and basic grammar. All are what I supplement to my students apart from what is required for the examination. I do not only expect my students can take in what I teach them, but expect that they are willing to learn what I teach them so that they may acquire practical skills.
As for the CCA, I provide a large range of contents for students to select. At the CCA of the first semester, students made different APPs for drawing, mini-games and knowledge quiz. We learned advanced contents Raspberry Pi last semester. Because of limited time, we did not complete it, so we would like to continue this semester. I hope that students can make some works. I plan to guide my students to do something more practical, such as making voice playback equipment for our school, and timing irrigation equipment for plants, which require the knowledge concerning sensor.
CCA is designed to provide students the space and opportunity to develop their interests so that they may be interested in this course, willing to learn it and may learn something. However, we want our students to develop their interests and make use of their interests for their purposes. When students come to their grade 10 or 11, we hope that they may turn their hobbies into strengths. We would like to encourage our students to attend more competitions to demonstrate their achievements. Anyone who like this course can study further. Our school will provide students more support, time and guide for competitions so that they may show their abilities in competitions.
L:您为什么会想到在拓展课程中做竞赛的辅导,有什么成果吗?
C:其实一开始是有一些反对的声音的,有人建议让学生专注在学术的、基础的学习上,不要舍本逐末地参加竞赛。但我们不是舍本逐末,我们是锦上添花。我们一直坚持要做竞赛,因为作为老师,我们知道,只是用学术成绩申请大学是不够的。比如说你去剑桥或者去牛津,它的基本线就是三门有两个A,学生达到了,这是基本线,过了这个坎,比的就是学生的软实力了,那就是竞赛类的成绩,这种特长会成为他能力的一部分,一同被审核,它起到的是锦上添花的作用。所以在学生有能力、有时间和有精力的条件下,我们会衡量学生的实力,帮助他达到一个更好的阶段。所以我们今年的我们教学部希望每个老师都能提供一个相关的拓展课,每个科目都发展相关的竞赛。
做竞赛也不仅仅是给学生辅导就够了。竞赛有不同的难易程度,初学的学生,我们一般只让他报简单或中等难度的竞赛,但是实力强的,我们会鼓励他报中等和高等难度的竞赛。让他们稳拿一个奖项,再冲一下自己的极限,积攒经验。我的学生中,有一个实力强劲的孩子——徐翔,他本身是有着很高的天赋,**次参赛就拿了银奖,他满足了,但是我不会,我会促进他,甚至推着他,用各种方式说服他再去参赛,因为我要让他再冲刺**。他有这个实力,他本身也喜欢这个专业,有意愿在大学继续在这个领域发展。所以我们整个教学团队给他做了一个具体的培养计划,给他设立目标,在他完成基础学业,成绩优良后,也要追求竞赛上的成绩。他妈妈说,我是他的伯乐,但是我觉得他自己本身的底子也是很重要的,我们关注着每一个学生,给他们机会和支持,但是他们未必会愿意参与进来,就算他是一匹千里马,他如果不肯跑,有再多伯乐也没用,所以必要的时候,我们也要逼学生一把,多督促他们。
L: Why do you arrange the guides in the CCA? Are there any achievements?
C: In fact, there were some counter views at the very beginning, and some held that students should focus on academics and basic knowledge instead of neglecting the essentials due to their attending competitions. However, we do not neglect the essentials, but are making progress. We adhere to competitions. As a teacher, I am clear that it is no enough to apply for a college by virtue of academic achievement alone. For example, Cambridge or Oxford takes that students should obtain two out of three courses as the baseline. If a student applying for one of the two reaches the baseline, his or her academic achievements may supplement him or her. Such a strength makes a part of his abilities. Once it is reviewed, it polishes the student. If students have enough capabilities, time and energies, we will assess their abilities and help reach a better stage. Therefore, the teaching department requires all teachers to provide a relevant CCA to develop concerned competitions for each subject.
Competitions do not require the guides to the students alone. The difficulty of competitions varies. We often encourage beginners to attend some simple or general competitions, while encourage these students of strong abilities to attend some general and difficult competitions. We encourage them to win a lower prize so that they may conquer their limits and obtain more experience. Among my students, Sean Xu is of great strength and talent. He got a silver prize at his first competition and was satisfied with himself. I am NOT! I will always promote him and even push him forward. I manage to resort to all means to persuade him to attend competitions, as I hope that he can obtain a gold award. He himself enjoys such an advantage and this course and is ready to develop further when he arrives at his college. So, our teaching team has deliberated a detailed cultivating program with specific goals for him. Based on his excellence in basic academics, he has to seek for achievements in competitions. His mother praise me as his talent scout, but I believe he enjoys a solid foundation. We are concerned all students and provide chances and support for them. However, they may not be willing to get involved. If a talented student is reluctant to attend, no talent scout will be helpful. So, we have to push them and supervise them when it is necessary.
L:为学生做培养计划是只为这个学生做过吗?还是其他学生也有,没有计算机特长,或者其他学科特长的学生,学术团队有什么计划吗?
C:我们学校是一个很支持学生的环境,比较精致化,我们可以关爱到每一个学生。学术部也经常跟升学指导办公室,她会分享哪个学生需要什么样的帮助?他想考什么大学?大学有哪些要求?他目前达到了什么水平?我们需要辅导他参加什么类型的竞赛?升学指导老师会协助提供信息,我们就根据这些信息,针对学生情况,形成一个全方位的分析,每个科目老师也会反馈学生的表现,设身处地的贴合学生的需求。
如果说学生本身也有这个兴趣,老师们很愿意给他做辅导,帮助他开发特长。去年我们有个别孩子,有些特殊情况,我们学术部召集该生的所有科目的老师,就针对这一个学生,开专题会,六个科目,六个老师一起坐下来,每个人确认这个学生目前是什么样的状况。再针对这些状况提了几种解决方案,跟他家长来回沟通了两个月,不停地邀请家长来学术部,将我们商量出的方案给他的家长参考,如果不同意,我们会再去商量、再设计方案。就这样耗时两个月,提出了一个非常棒的解决方案,为他将来的升学路径提供了很大的帮助。
在所有的国际学校里你很难找出同样的例子,我们是个精致的学校,学生数量也不多,那么同样在国际学校里,我们的学生受到的关注肯定比别的学校的孩子要多得多,只有我们能够做到细致到每一个学生每一个家庭,他的每一个科目,再细致到他后续的目标,每一个小的细节我们都能照顾到,是VIP的服务!
L: Have you made the cultivating program for him only? Have you ever made any program for those who are not prominent in computer or other subjects?
C: Our school is centered on students and provide the conditions to support students’ development. We are caring about each student. The academic department always communicates with the promoting and guiding office on the help one student needs. What is his ideal college? What does the college require? What level has he arrived already? What kind of competition should he be coached to attend? The promoting and guiding office helps provide information, based on which we would like to work out a comprehensive analysis on the student. Teachers of each subject feedbacks the student’s performance to meet his demands better.
If a student is interested in the course, his teacher will be willing to help him develop his strength. There was a special student last year. The academic department gathered all the six teachers of his six subjects to hold a seminar, on which each teacher expressed the student’s situation. Based on the information, we worked out several solutions. We communicated with his parents for two months and invited them to the academic department to share our solutions for their reference. If they did not agree, we would think over and design another one. It took us two months to work out an excellent solution, which was very helpful for his future studies.
You can hardly find a similar case among all international schools. We are a delicate school with a controlled number of students. Our students are cared much more than those who are in other international schools. Only our school can care each student, each family and each subject and students’goals. We care about details. We provide VIP service!
在这次专访中,我曾情不自禁的打断过陈老师几次,因为不得不多次确认:
——真的为了一个学生做了一整套计划,召集全部学术老师,与家长数次沟通吗?
——真的!
——像专家会诊一样?
——对!真的很像专家会诊,还要联合升学指导,很多信息汇聚一起来分析。
——在交谈中,能感受到,你非常喜欢学生,非常喜欢做教师,是这样吗。
——是的,我太喜欢孩子了,我特别喜欢莱克顿的学生,特别乖,特别聪明,比如有两名成绩好、学习进度快的学生,我给他们两个布置了一个作业。找来坏掉的旧电脑给他们修,这个过程,他们就能明白每个零件起到的作用,比起干巴巴的读理论要有用的多。我以为他们会常来求助我,但是,你知道吗?他们几乎不来问我问题,他们全都自己去查,自己去找答案,虽然现在还没有做完,但我觉得他们俩没问题的。
提到学生们,她如数家珍,镜片后的眼睛亮亮的,终于明白为什么陈老师在学校里是如此受欢迎,也许就是因为,她是如此全心全意的热爱着教育事业,热爱着她的课程,热爱着她的学生,这份热爱感染了莱克顿的每一个人,每一个学生。对于莱克顿和学生们来说,是如此幸运的相逢。
