Program Overview

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program at Indiana University is a four year certificate program fully accredited by the American Dental Association. The residency is sponsored by Indiana University and its School of Dentistry. It is the only program in the State of Indiana located on the health sciences campus of Indiana University/ Purdue University Indianapolis and provides training in the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. The residency accepts three residents per year.

Oral and maxillofacial surgical training occurs under the auspices of the School of Dentistry at several affiliated hospitals. The residents rotate to the following hospital systems: Indiana University Health, Eskenazi Health and the Roudebush VA Medical Center of which compromise three level one trauma centers, a cancer center and a craniofacial/cleft center.

The residency is structured so that throughout the four years the resident will participate in a core oral and maxillofacial experience in addition to assigned formal rotations in Anesthesia, Medicine, General Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Oral Pathology, Head and Neck surgery, and ICU. In addition to the clinical rotations, the resident will participate in a multitude of didactic programs including many multi-disciplinary dental and medical conferences.
