The Master of Public Affairs (MPA) program at SPEA IUPUI will advance your understanding of public, private, and nonprofits organizations that serve the public interest.

SPEA’s MPA emphasizes professional practice across disciplines, preparing students for responsible and informed legal, management, financial, and budgetary leadership roles in the public and nonprofits sector.

The Non-profit Management concentration is an 18-credit-hour course of study within the Master of Public Affairs that prepares students with the ideas and technical skills needed to address the challenges and opportunities found in and surrounding non-profit organizations.

The Non-profit Management concentration leverages the expertise of SPEA IUPUI’s faculty in combination with the vibrant non-profit community in and around Indianapolis to provide students with applied learning experiences. Students will understand the roles non-profit organizations play in society while learning about different management practices such as financial management or human resource management.

Learn to:

• Analyze organizational as well as sector-wide problems and make appropriate, theoretically informed recommendations to solve those problems
• Evaluate nonprofit management practices and generate innovative solutions to improve those practices
• Critically interpret and conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses that contribute to the understanding of current challenges in the nonprofit sector
• Present complex ideas clearly and systematically in verbal, graphical, and written forms

Degree requirements

The core requirements of the MPA prepare you to enter or continue work in public service, no matter your area of focus. Each student must also complete the requirements of their chosen concentration and the required number of electives to fulfill the MPA’s 39 credit hours.
