Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association as an allied health care profession. The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing in athletic health care. As part of a complete health care team, the athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other allied health care workers, athletic administrators, coaches and parents. The athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic health care team in secondary schools, colleges, universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs and other athletic health care settings. Specifically, the athletic trainer specializes in practice areas or domains: evidence-based practice, prevention and health promotion, clinical examination and diagnosis, acute care of injury and illness, therapeutic interventions, psychosocial strategies and referral, healthcare administration, and professional development and responsibility.u200c

Career Opportunities:

The Athletic Training (AT) major will prepare a student for many career opportunities which include the working in the following settings: 1) colleges and universities, 2) professional sports, 3) high schools, 4) sports medicine clinics, 5) corporate health programs, 6) military, 7) clinical and industrial health care programs, and 8) performing arts, and 9) athletic training curriculum programs.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants must currently be a junior or senior in high school (with or without college credits), or have graduated high school and have taken no college courses. We strongly recommend high school students take a rigorous college preparatory curriculum prior to enrolling at SVSU. The primary core includes: 4 years of English; 3 years of mathematics (through second year algebra); 3 years of natural sciences (at least two years of biology, chemistry, or physics); 3 years of social sciences; 2 years of the same foreign language. Minimum Language Requirements: Minimum GPA: 2.0; TOEFL- IBT: 61; IELTS: 5.5; PTE: 45.
