With over 600 hours of placement, JCU’s Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) degree has the highest number of clinical placement hours for any undergraduate pharmacy degree within Australia.

Be prepared for clinical practice in Australia and develop the skills to conduct pharmacy practice research, whether in community, hospital or other areas of practice. Students can choose from a professional or research stream in the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours). In the professional honours stream, you will be part of a team investigating a problem in the clinical environment. Students in the research stream independently research projects to identify new knowledge and develop research skills.

Career Opportunities

JCU Pharmacy (Honours) graduates have extensive medical knowledge and are employed in a wide range of settings.

Graduates pursue careers in the pharmacy industry.

You could find employment as a community pharmacist, hospital pharmacist, work in primary care settings within multidisciplinary teams, work as a consultant pharmacist, industrial pharmacist, researcher or educator.

JCU Pharmacy students and graduates are eligible for registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.

Course learning outcomes

On successful completion, graduates of the course will be able to:

Integrate a coherent and advanced body of professional knowledge, competencies, behaviours, responsibilities and ethics within a health provision model of pharmacy practice that is appropriate in rural, remote, Indigenous and tropical contexts

Retrieve, synthesise, critically evaluate and apply evidence in pharmacy practice

Obtain, interpret and evaluate patient and clinical data to assess individual and population health status and, where necessary, formulate, implement and monitor management plans, in consultation with patients and communities

Promote and optimise the health and welfare of individuals and populations

Communicate clearly and coherently through well-developed English language and numeracy proficiency, appropriate for entry into the pharmacy workforce

Deliver and facilitate safe and effective collaborative patient-centred health outcomes, within a clearly defined and accepted scope of pharmacy practice

Reflect on current skills, knowledge and attitudes to plan ongoing professional development and foster a commitment to lifelong learning

Apply knowledge of research principles and methods to plan and execute project work and/or a piece of research and scholarship with some independence.
