专业概况
在这里学什么?The Department of Anthropology at the University of Nevada, Reno offers a master of arts degree. The department has an in-house research museum with rotating exhibits, a physical anthropology lab, a linguistics lab, a prehistoric archeology lab and a historical archeology lab.
Students pursuing the master of arts degree must satisfy all graduate school requirements. A thesis is required. Optional tracks for the thesis include prehistoric/historical archaeology, cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology or physical/biological anthropology.
Biological Anthropology
Biological anthropology is the sub-discipline of anthropology that studies human evolution and variation. Specific emphasis is on mechanisms of biological evolution, genetic inheritance, human adaptability, worldwide genetic and physical variation, primate anatomy and behavior, and paleoanthropology.
Cultural Anthropology
Cultural anthropologists study the diversity of human cultures and societies around the world and the processes by which people construct local, regional and global forms of social relationships. Several anthropologists in the department study the processes by which people construct particular social identities, worldviews and forms of community in a changing, globalizing world. In the contemporary world, much ethnography addresses the manner in which people in local communities orient themselves to global networks and institutions.
Linguistic Anthropology
Linguistic anthropology is the study of language use in social life. Linguistic anthropologists study the diversity of the world's languages and the diversity of language use and other forms of communication in societies around the world. Also included in this, is the study of cultural understandings of language and language varieties. This department has particular strengths in bilingualism and multilingualism, ethnography of communication, discourse analysis, indigenous language maintenance and revitalization, language and power, and language and place.

为来自中国的学生设计 Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution. Eligibility for admission with a 3-year bachelor's degree are determined on a case by case basis. Minimum grade point average (on a 4.0 scale): 2.75 for a master’s degree. TOEFL: 550 (paper) or 79 (internet), IELTS: 6.5 (academic version).课程信息
